“Rivers can shape the cities of our century”, argues speaker at Humboldt-Kolleg Conference

Brazilian architect Carolina Nunes participated online in the International Conference “Humboldt-Kolleg, A City for Living” in Samara, Russia.

A city founded in the 16th century, Samara is a million inhabitants city located on the river Volga. The river played an important in the industrialization period, and that opens an important and urgent discussion on its future. Today the hi-tech industrial city faces typical problems of a large city in the era of globalization and informatization.

Carolina Nunes’s speech concentrated in the change of era, from the industrial time and the predictable lives towards the fluid contemporary society. Furthermore, she shared many ideas suggesting ways to integrate rivers and cities, and presented some insights for Samara.
