Global Cities | Institute of Advanced Studies of the University of Sao Paulo promotes the Webinar “Rivers and Green Infrastructure”. Carolina Nunes (Humanität) is a guest speaker.
The video is available on youtube (only in Portuguese):
Webinar: Urban Rivers and Green Infrastructure
The Urbansus Webinar, “Urban Rivers and Green Infrastructure,” aims to present contemporary solutions for the relationship between rivers and cities, considering ecological aspects, flood prevention, and the creation of better public spaces for leisure. Additionally, it will discuss green and blue infrastructure—water and parks—as a means to solve urban functional problems economically while benefiting people and the environment.
Another key highlight of the event is the idea of rivers as urban assets. Often overlooked, straightened, and buried, rivers can serve as fundamental connectors between nature and urbanized areas.
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, urban planning must be reimagined with new socio-environmental measures and recommendations to create safe, inclusive, and sustainable spaces.
Cities need to be redefined, embracing their complexity—a mix of nature, technology, traditions, and emotions. Rivers, alongside the urban revitalization of central areas with their unique characteristics and historical heritage, have the potential to transform urban life, focusing on new social, cultural, and environmental values.
While sustainability, democracy, culture, uniqueness, and diversity are frequently discussed, what does a city that embodies these values look like? What kind of city do we want to live in? The webinar intends to outline paths to development that harmonize nature with quality of life, using case studies of best practices to demonstrate that building more sustainable and human-centered cities is achievable.
