SHORT FILM “THE CITY AND THE RIVER” NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE

The short film “The City and the River” is now accessible on the project’s Facebook and YouTube pages. Sponsored by the Municipal Fund for Cultural Support (FMAC), this video by architect Carolina Viviane Nunes underscores the significance of environmental preservation and the pivotal role of urban planning in crafting cities with more public spaces for social interaction and river integration. The film carries a suitable-for-all-audiences rating and aims to serve as a tool to engage educators and students in cultural and environmental endeavors, emphasizing that fostering a city with a higher quality of life necessitates active citizen participation.

Beginning with an exploration of the environmental, economic, and social importance of the Itajaí-Açu River to the municipality of Blumenau, the video’s narrative unfolds through hand-drawn illustrations, employing a straightforward and engaging storytelling approach.

The future city trends depicted in the video are the result of Carolina’s research and experiences in Germany, where she participated in the Bundeskanzler Stipendium program of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation—a program sponsored by German Chancellor Angela Merkel for emerging global leaders. Over a year and a half, the architect delved into how Germany is devising strategies to safeguard cities from flooding, restore natural landscapes, and establish public leisure spaces along riverfronts.

This project has received support from Humanität, the Historical Institute of Blumenau (IHB), and SINDILOJAS Blumenau.
